Justin Tyler Fandl
June 1, 1978 — April 20, 2026
Justin Tyler Fandl, age 47, of Amsterdam, passed April 20, 2026 at home with his family at his side. He was born June 1, 1978 in Suffern, NY son of Gary and Pamela (Armstrong) Fandl.
Justin was a long-time fixture at Liberty ARC, where he transitioned from the Life Skills Program into the Seniors Program. Prior to moving to Amsterdam, Justin resided in Orange County and was a client of CRVI, where he spent many wonderful years. Regardless of where he was, Justin was a master of connection. He didn’t just meet people; he made friends instantly. With a "larger-than-life" personality and a smile that could truly light up any room, he had a unique purpose in the lives of every peer and staff member he encountered.
Justin’s early home at Miami Ave. was the perfect reflection of his sunny disposition. It was here where he was the heartbeat of the house. He then moved to his home on Second Avenue, where he spent his last year. He was famous for announcing his arrival with a joyful, "I’m home!" whenever he walked through the door. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. No afternoon was complete without his cherished snack of Diet Coke and Pop-Tarts. Music was Justin’s world. He was rarely seen without his iconic red radio, which served as the backdrop to his many jokes and playful interactions. Justin possessed a beautiful streak of independence, navigating the world with a confidence and style that was uniquely his.
While Justin was a friend to many, his deepest bond was with his family. He looked forward to their visits several times a week with pure, unbridled excitement. The walls of Liberty ARC often echoed with his happy exclamation of "MOM!" the moment they arrived. He was, and shall always remain, the love of his mother’s life.
Justin's life was a gift to all whom he encountered, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Justin is survived by his beloved parents, Gary and Pamela Fandl; his sister Mari Brown and her daughter Charley Rae Brown of Nashville; his brother Christopher (Sara) Fandl and their sons Brady, Kellan and Tanner Fandl; as well as many, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. "The whole entire family" whom he loved with his entire heart.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Dolores Armstrong and his paternal grandparents, Helmuth and Patricia Fandl.
In commemoration of Justin's bright, beautiful life, the family requests you wear bright colors or your favorite Hawaiian shirt.
A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11 AM with Father Juanito Asperec presiding at St. Mary's Catholic Church 156 E Main St, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery Steadwell Road, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Liberty ARC 43 Liberty Drive Amsterdam, New York 12010. In the near future, the family will be establishing Justin's Memory, a cause near and dear to the hearts of Justin's family and the many friends he made on his journey.
