Mrs. Ora G. Lohmeyer, 99, formerly a long time resident of Klapmeyer Road, Town of Florida, died peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at her residence on Braman Corners Road.
A lifelong area resident, Ora was born in the Town of Florida on March 18, 1911 the daughter of the late Edward and Louise Shopmeier Rutter. She attended local schools and was employed as a clerk with F.W. Woolworth in Amsterdam for many years.
On October 8, 1930 she was united in marriage to Fred W. Lohmeyer. Together for nearly 50 years, they owned and operated their own Poultry and Produce Farm; delivering their products door to door for many years. He died on February 13, 1979. She was also predeceased by a step brother, Arthur Horstman.
Ora was a faithful member of the former Ft. Hunter Methodist Church and later St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Town of Florida Grange. Ora was known for her love of nature and keeping her home and property meticulous. Later in life, she was welcomed into her nieces home where she has resided for the past several years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her cousins, Dorothy Buckmaster and Lena Harrison; her goddaughter, caregiver and grand niece, Frances Hoffman and her husband J.R.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 1 o'clock at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with Rev. Dr. John Califano presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 12 noon. Interment will take place at a later date in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville. In place of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Community Hospice in care of the funeral home office.
