Patricia J. Stewart
April 26, 1937 — February 24, 2015
Mrs. Patricia J. Stewart, age 77, of Gloversville, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Mountain Valley Hospice with her family by her side following a long illness.
She was born April 26, 1937 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Willard and Dorothy Gifford Schoolcraft. She was a lifelong member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church serving in many capacities there throughout the years. She also ran the concession stand for the Gloversville Little League, worked in the soup kitchen at the Salvation Army, volunteered for the Regional Animal Shelter and was a member and past president of the PTA in the Gloversville School District.
Patricia was a traditional homemaker for many years. As her children grew up she went to work as a school crossing guard and teacher's aide for the Gloversville School District. Patricia then went to work for the former Fulton County National Bank and Trust Company as a teller and bookkeeping supervisor. She retired early, of course, to be able to spend more time with her grandchildren and family.
Family and the simple home life were of the upmost importance to her with her two grandchildren occupying a special place in her heart. The four legged members of her family were always close by her side and added years of enjoyment to her life.
She was dearly loved and admired by her son and daughter. She lived her life with an independent spirit that never left her during her 6 year battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Cancer.
Patricia was married July 14, 1957 to John Stewart who died June 9, 2006. She is survived by
two children: Michael J. Stewart (Suzanne) of Mayfield and Sherri J. Ryan (Timothy) of Gloversville; two grandchildren: Racquel Ryan and Colton Ryan; a sister, Audrey Morgan (Robert) of Port Orange, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 27th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 noon Saturday with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating.
Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of Northeastern New York, Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4. Suite 405; Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
