Robert L. Carter, 78, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Albany. He was born January 17, 1934 in Mayfield, the son of the late Charles and Lillian Lawrence Carter. Robert served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1952 to 1957. On April 29, 1967, he married the former Joan McSpirit, who survives. They enjoyed over forty five years of marriage. He was employed by Duff and Wilson Paving in Johnstown. Robert loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed going to softball and baseball games. He was a member of the Indian Oven Hunting Camp, the Concordia Club and several area bowling leagues. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his beloved wife, Joan Carter, of Gloversville, survivors include four sons: Thomas Carter of Gloversville, Robert Carter, Jr.Denise of Mayfield, Lou Carter Valerie of Gloversville and Pat Carter Darleen Gaugler of Gloversville; three daughters: Bonny Dolly of Oregon, Jean Anne Cline of Gloversville and Mabellene Whipple William, Jr. of Fultonville; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Harry Carter Lorraine of Nevada: a sister, Georgia May Scott Charles; "a son", Mark Wilson Eileen of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited and may call Monday, July 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor L. David Almleaf presiding. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors.
