Mr. Robert J. Gardner, 59, died Sunday at his residence in Gloversville. He was born March 5, 1948 to the late John and Blanche Rackmyer. A life-long area resident, he was educated in Gloversville schools and earned his G.E.D.
He was employed by Johnstown Knitting where he worked in textiles as a dye-man. He was also employed as a bartender in local establishments for several years until his illness in 1994. Mr. Gardner was a member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge and former member of the Eagles Lodge and Gloversville American Legion. He served his country in the United States Army for several months. Robert enjoyed racecars, horse racing, bingo and going to casinos.
Survivors include his loving wife, Darlene Rulison Gardner; two sons, Elvis P. Gardner and John V. Gardner; two daughters, Leslie Ladeau and Melinda Gray; two brothers, Rick Rackmyer and Ronald Perkins and two sisters, Sandra Hermance of Schenectady and Betty Hartley of Georgia. Five grandchildren also survive Robert.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-6 PM at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street in Gloversville. Interment will follow on Friday at Ferndale Cemetery. The family wishes to extend an invitation following the burial to DeVoe Park on Willie Road, Caroga Lake for continued fellowship. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Robert?s memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or to the National Kidney Foundation of NENY, 99 Troy Road, Suite 200, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
