Roy E. Hazzard
October 16, 1952 — August 10, 2023
Roy E. Hazzard 70, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital. Roy was born on October 16, 1952 to the late Ralph and Pamela (Richards) Hazzard.
On July 1, 1972, Roy was united in marriage to the Love of his Life Marcia Harwood, with whom he has shared the past 51 wonderful years.
Roy worked as a security officer for St. Clare's Hospital for 17 years, until their merge with Ellis Hospital, at which time he moved to the Nott Street campus. He retired in 2014, having served 28 years between the two.
A man of many hats, Roy was known for his skills in carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. He used these skills, along with his own innovation and smarts, to repair anything and everything around the house. He enjoyed working on his own home, as well as lending his handiwork to anyone who might need him. When he wasn’t working on a project, Roy loved to ride motorcycles and vacation on cruises. Of the many cruises he took, cruising to Europe and spending time in Venice, Italy and riding in a Gondola was his favorite. He was also a great cook, and he loved good food, and the occasional cigar and glass of bourbon with his brother-in-law Chuck.
Roy’s loving family includes his wife, Marcia Hazzard; his sons, Lee (Brandy) Hazzard and Roy (Renee) Hazzard Jr.; his grandchildren, Alex, Kaitlyn, Donovan, Stephanie, and Jordan (Robert), his great-grandchildren, Addyson, Lorenzo, and Lukas; his siblings, Karen (Tom) Donahue and Lucy Lou, Gary (Kathy) Hazzard, and Nancy Fisher; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roy loved his sons, who were always there for him. He was very Proud of them.
Roy is preceded in passing by his parents, Ralph and Pamela, as well as by his parents-in-law LeRoy and Beatrice Harwood.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
