Marion "The Hat Lady" Stephenson
February 17, 1933 — January 15, 2021
Marion Stephenson, “The Hat Lady” 87, of Fultonville, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Fonda, NY, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was a 1949 graduate of Fultonville High School and was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for over 38 years, retiring in 1990 as a Government Security Specialist.
Marion was very active in the Fonda-Fultonville Community. She was a member and trustee of the Maple Avenue Cemetery Board, member of the Fultonville Reformed Church, member of the Lilac and Sunflower Book Club, a board member of the Frothingham Free Library, deacon, and member of Fonda Reformed Church, a member of the Town of Glen Town Board, and member of the Woestina Reformed Church in Rotterdam Junction, NY. Marion was very social and loved entertaining family and friends. Above all, she enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will like to thank Pastor Kent McHeard of the Woestina Reformed Church for ministering to Marion, Dr. George Weis for his care, and the Mountain Valley Hospice Team.
Marion married Harold W. "Jake" Stephenson on August 27, 1949. He passed away on December 16, 2006. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Linda Sambuca of Fonda, NY, and Barbara and John Kress III of Ballston Spa, NY; Four cherished grandchildren, Erich (Shanon) Kress, Terry (Sherri) Martagon, Chad (Jenny) Kress, and Jeremy (Aubrey) Sambuca. Lovely known as “GG” by her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Riley, Gavin, Jaeyeong, and Tyler. Special nieces, Marjori and Melinda, and special nephew, Richard Jr., as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law Anthony Sambuca in 2016.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville, NY. In lieu of contributions, Marion has asked that everyone be kind to one another and treat each other with dignity and respect in her honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY 12072.
