Melanie F. Wright
June 29, 1951 — May 16, 2026
Melanie Forrest Wright, age 74, passed from this life on May 16, 2026, in Gloversville, New York, after a brief illness.
Melanie was born on June 29, 1951 and spent most of her life living in Miami, Florida. She graduated from Coral Gables High School, attended the University of Kentucky in 1969-70 and then the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1973. She returned to Miami after graduation and became a certified ultrasound therapist and technician, a career in which she served patients until 2004. In that year, Melanie moved to Gloversville to be with her parents, Jack and Beryl Wright, and her sister, Mona Wright Schultz and Mona’s family. In 2008, Mel moved with her parents to her mom’s ancestral hometown of Hebron, Maryland, where she cared for them until they passed. She subsequently moved from Maryland back to Johnstown, NY in 2021, where she lived until her passing.
Melanie was energetic and enthusiastic about many things including her family, friends, and beloved animals, most of them strays whom she cared for devotedly. She was an avid reader and extraordinary cook and enjoyed art and the beauty of nature. She loved the outdoors, particularly birds, and her favorite animals were frogs. Among her last wishes is that her ashes be scattered in what she called the “Firefly Meadow” at the home of her sister Mona and brother-in-law Rodger Schultz, just outside Gloversville.
Melanie is survived by her sister Mona, her husband Rodger, of Gloversville, NY, nephews Victor Leatherman Schultz of Rahway, New Jersey, Eric Rodgers Schultz and his wife, Rachel Rhodes, of Washington, D.C., and William Wright Schultz, his wife, Jessica, and their daughters, grandnieces Penelope Grace and Charlotte Rose Schultz. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Scheffel Wright, of Quincy, Florida, two nephews, Christopher Robert Wright and Austin Scheffel Wright, Austin’s wife Sarah Kathryn, and their daughters, grandnieces Carolyn Weathers “Callie” Wright and Lillian Watson “Lilly” Wright, all of Tallahassee, Florida.
Melanie was a loving person of deep faith, kindness and generosity, always thinking of her family and friends. She was a compassionate listener and equally strong support for those whom she loved. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
