Luz Rede Perez
December 18, 1942 — December 27, 2024
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Luz Rede Perez, on December 27, 2024, at the age of 82. Known affectionately as “Tata” by his family, Luz was born on December 18, 1942, in Artesia, New Mexico, but spent the later years of his life in Tucson, Arizona, where it was the monsoon season that captivated his heart and made him fall in love with the place he would call home forever. Luz’s love for life and family was a constant in all he did. He was a hardworking husband to his wife, Josefina, with whom he shared a love built on faith and countless years of cherished memories. Together, they created a family that stands strong in the values he instilled—kindness, hard work, and devotion to one another. Luz was the proud father of Irma, Linda, Patricia (Arthur), and Raquel (Albert), and the loving grandfather of Juan Carlos, Anthony, Nicholas, Eric, Vanessa, Breanna, Carolina, Adam, and Katrina. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather of several great-grandchildren. Luz lived his life with purpose, working hard to provide for his family with a career as a successful salesman. But his true calling was always in service to others. Whether working for many years with the Cursillo Movement, operating the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in conjunction with the Southern Arizona Food Bank, or serving on the finance committee at his parish, Luz was always ready to lend a hand. A memorial service will be held on January 14th, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints located at 2915 E. 36th Street, Tucson, AZ 85713. The rosary will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass at Holy Hope Cemetery located at 3555 N. Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705. For those attending the funeral services, we ask that you please do not wear the color black. Luz refused to wear the color black after his cancer diagnosis, and in his memory, we adopt the saying of the “De Colores” and ask that everyone wear colors other than black at the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul/Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Luz’s memory, or that canned goods be brought to the service to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry, continuing the spirit of service that was so dear to him. Rest in peace, Hon, Dad, and Tata. You are deeply loved, and your memory will stay with us always.
