Robert Lynn Nelson

September 20, 1931 — April 13, 2025

ROBERT LYNN NELSON, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 13, 2025 in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 93 years old. 

Born September 20, 1931 in Tucson, Arizona to Hyrum and Chloe Nelson. He was the 11th child out of 13 children who grew up in the “Binghampton” area of Tucson among many of his Latter-day Saint friends and family. He was raised in a loving, humble adobe home on Ft. Lowell and Palo Verde built by his father which included a barn and an outhouse. 

After graduating High School, he served in the U.S. Air force and received an honorary discharge as a Lieutenant. After his honorable service, he was educated at the University of Arizona where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Master’s degree in Education. He always had a passion for teaching both in secular and his many church callings. In his early years of Education, he was a Principal at Lulu Walker Elementary School but enjoyed teaching more so he chose to become a math teacher at Amphitheater Junior High School. He retired after 30 years of teaching. 

His memory will be cherished and remembered by his Eternal Sweetheart, Barbara Mattingly Nelson, his children, Sherrie Carrell, Dale Nelson, Jon Nelson and Chad Nelson, his 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, his brothers Ray Nelson and Donovan Nelson. 

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his Savior and the Gospel. His loving kindness to all those around him exemplified his Christ-like attributes as he always strived to be a “little better” each day. He was the perfect husband, father and friend. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a viewing on Friday, April 25th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at BRINGS MORTUARY at 6910 E. Broadway Blvd. Tucson, Arizona. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Linden Chapel) at 1540 E. Linden St., Tucson, Arizona where viewing will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment at the East Lawn Cemetery 5801 East Grant Road Tucson, AZ.  immediately after the services.
