Donald Hermanson
d. January 1, 2001
Donald Lewis Hermanson died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010. He was 92 years old.
Don was born to Herman and Alma Hermanson in Minden, Neb. in 1917. He was the middle child of 9 children. All have preceded him in death except for his sister, Doris Bader (Modesto). Don is survived by his beloved wife, Bethlene, and his adoring children, Donald Jr. and Angela Hermanson (Sac.), Nancy Hermanson (Chico), and Bill and Christy Fedorko (Chico). He was dearly loved by his 11 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
Don and Beth had been married for 62 years, and had shared many joys in this lifetime. They loved to travel the world over, and spend time with their family and friends.
Don is a retired US Naval Officer and a Pearl Harbor survivor. His ship at Pearl, the USS Maryland, suffered two bomb hits in the attack and Don was instrumental in restoring communications to land.
Upon retirement from the Navy, Don attended CSU, Chico, and received his teaching credential. He later received a Masters degree in the Teaching of Mathematics from Stanford University. He taught high school math for 17 years in Fremont, CA. They then retired to Magalia, and later moved to Chico where they enjoyed their "Golden Years". Don was one of a few men that always gave...to his family, friends, and country. He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Don's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on March 6, 2010 in the Sierra Room on the first floor at The Lodge, 2750 Sierra Sunrise Terraces in Chico.
