JOAN MARSHA GEORGE July 7, 1943 - Oct. 23, 2010 Joan, a much beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, while with family and friends. She was born in Downey, CA to Frank Brown and Doris Himmler. After being raised in Pomona, CA, and graduating from Ganesha High School, Joan moved to Northern California and settled in Chico in 1969. Joan was a federal employee over 40 years with the Forest Service originally, and then with the Social Security Department. Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed traveling the world, gardening, beach combing, car rallies and antiquing with her friends. Upon retirement, Joan was always busy planning the next adventure to do with her grandchildren, volunteering at the Patrick Ranch Museum and later served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) representing foster children. Giving a voice to children to assure they would be heard was a service she was privileged to provide. Joan is survived by many who loved her dearly, including her son, Don George and grandsons, Dustin and Dylan George in Elk Grove, CA; her sister, Penny Poore and her husband, Don in Eureka, CA; her brother, Kurt Himmler and his wife, Sandi Castellano in Chico, CA; her step-father, Ken Himmler and his wife Brigitte Himmler in Union City, CA and her step-sister, Jean Woodward and her husband, Mike in San Jose, CA. Joan also leaves behind her loving pets of many years. Services will be held at Brusie Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, followed by a celebration of Joan's life at the Chico Masonic Family Center - 1110 West East Avenue in Chico. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to CASA of Butte.
