Manuel Soares

Manuel A. Soares, 89 of Chico, died September 29, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born August 10, 1926, in Sloughouse, CA to the late John and Mary Soares. Manuel attended Bidwell Grammar School and graduated from Chico High School in 1943. He married Helen Azevedo in 1952, and they shared 63 wonderful years together. He was a lifelong farmer, growing almonds, walnuts, and row crops. Manuel was devoted to his family and a member of the Chico Portuguese Club and Our Divine Savior Catholic Church. Manuel is survived by his wife Helen; four children, Tony (Debi) Soares, Michael (Marlene) Soares, Cathy Soares (Rusty Jacobson) and Cheryl (Myles) Pustejovsky; grandchildren Emily (Chris) LaMoe, Anna (Ryan) Johnson, and Jared Soares (Katelyn Polantz); and great grandchildren Caroline and Henry LaMoe, and Caleb and Cameron Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother John Soares, Jr. A rosary will be recited at 7pm, Sunday, October 4th at Brusie Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 5th, 11am at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church. Burial at Chico Cemetery and a reception at the ODS Social Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
