Judith "Judy" J. Smith

Judith “Judy” J. Smith, 81, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord peacefully following an extended illness on Friday, May 8, 2026. She was born in Oak Ridge, TN to the late Haskel and Margaret Johnson. She was a lifetime member of the Kingsport Crewettes where she served for 55 years. She was also a lifetime member of the Woman’s Auxillary to the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads where she served as a past state president. Judy was also a devoted member of the Kingsport Life Saving Crew and the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads. She was a member of Lovelace Baptist Church. Judy retired from Indian Path Medical Center where she worked for many years as a Radiology Transcriptionist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Johnson; sister, Nancy Franklin; grandson, Gabe Laughlin; son-in-law, Terry Laughlin.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Ronald Smith; daughter, Sandy Laughlin; son, Jamie Smith (Trinity); grandchildren who were the light of her life, Braden Smith, Greg Laughlin; Audrey Smith, and Jamison Smith; sister, Janice Long (David); brother, Bill Johnson (Katy); multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who were like family.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport with the T.A.R.S. Honor Guard serving as casket guards. A funeral service will follow with Chaplain Jack Almany and Pastor David Bolden officiating. Music will be provided by Jada Bolden.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery in Fall Branch. T.A.R.S. Honor Guard and members of the Kingsport Life Saving Crew will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:00am.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ana Dykes, Shelia Fleenor and Tish Light for their care and assistance. As well as Amedysis Hospice, Amedysis Home Health, and the Nursing Staff at NHC in Kingsport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsport Life Saving Crew.
