Larry David Whitley
September 6, 1950 — May 12, 2026
Larry David Whitley, age 75, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. He was born in Kingsport on September 6, 1950, to William and Mayme Whitley. Larry retired from the Kingsport Fire Department as Fire Marshal after many years of service. He served in multiple professional organizations and as a past president of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Larry was a devout Christian and longtime member of Oak Drive Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in many roles over the years including head deacon, teacher, trusted leader, and servant. He was known for his strong faith, unwavering dedication to his church, and love for the Lord. Of all the blessings in Larry’s life, none meant more to him than his family. He loved them fiercely, was endlessly proud of them, and found his greatest joy in simply being together.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Linda Dunn Whitley, who was truly the love of his life; children Aaron (Beth) Whitley and Ashleigh (Mitch) Miller; grandchildren Eli, Bailey, Hadley, and Conner Kay; brothers Eddie (Gail) Whitley and Jerry (Polly) Whitley; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A visitation of family and friends will be held at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a funeral service to follow with Pastor Eddie Whitley officiating.
A graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 am with Eli Whitley, Mitch Miller, Brian Whitley, Eddie Whitley Jr., Nate Whitley, and Chris Maupin serving as pallbearers. The members of Oak Drive Baptist Church will be serving as honorary pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Oak Drive Baptist Church 1020 Oak Drive Circle, Kingsport, TN 37665.
