Patsy L. Bates

Patsy L. Bates, age 86 of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2026. Patsy was born on September 12, 1939, in Kingsport, TN to Joe and Mary Lane. Patsy was devoted in helping others, and she worked as a nurse for 28 plus years at Holston Valley Medical Center, and many years as a private duty nurse.

Patsy enjoyed her life and loved her family. She loved listening to country and gospel music, especially The Primitives, and she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and quilting. She was also a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Those who know Patsy are truly blessed, and she will be dearly missed.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; and eight brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Kenneth (Ken) W. Bates, and James Alan Bates; two grandchildren, Megan Bates, and Ethan Bates and his wife, Leslie; four great grandchildren, Sawyer Haugrud, Sadie Haugrud, William Bates, and Ofelia Bates; two sisters, Ina Smith, and Nancy Fields; one brother, Gary Lane and his wife, Linda; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) and / or the American Cancer Society (American Cancer Society)

The family will receive friends at Carter Trent Funeral Home Kingsport on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm.
