Virginia Baxter McClain

Virginia Baxter McClain went to be with her precious Lord on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Preston Place. Virginia was born in Scott County, Virginia on September 9, 1937, but had resided in the Kingsport area all her life. She accepted the Lord at age 11 and was baptized and followed the Lord for her entire life. She was a founding member of Shades of Grace UMC. Virginia graduated from Ketron High School and attended Whitney Business College. She worked in the medical field for many years. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years. She taught her sons and grandchildren about God. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed working in her flowers and traveling.
Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Perry McClain; parents, Lawrence and Florence (Myers) Baxter; brother, Paul (Peanut) Baxter; sister, Helen Marie Baxter; and an infant brother.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Holly) and Richard McClain; four grandchildren, Michael, Brett, Chase, and Christy McClain; two sisters, Shirley Vineyard and Earline Haga (Larry); brother, Bobby (Margaret Baxter); sisters-in-law, Janice Baxter and Virginia A. McClain; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am .
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shades of Grace UMC, 313 E. Sullivan Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport is serving the McClain family.
