Carl Wayne Salyers

July 18, 1966 — April 18, 2015

Carl Wayne Salyers, 48, of Hiltons, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 18th, 2015 following a courageous battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Born in Bristol, TN, he has been an active member of the Scott County Community all his life. He attended Gate City High School and was a member of Darthula Baptist Church. Wayne was a member of the Scott County Life Saving Crew where he played an active role and served on the board of directors. In recent days, he was presented the distinction as lifelong member of the crew. He was a past member of the Hiltons Fire Department and involved in several other area fire departments. The last few years he worked as a correctional officer at Wallen's Ridge State Prison. Wayne was a loving husband, father, son, brother and best friend to his daughters. He is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Cynthia Pippin Salyers, four daughters, Rachel Taylor husband Matthew Army SPC , Gate City, Courtney Salyers, Candra Salyers and Tailor Salyers all of the home; grandchildren, Gavin Person and Conner Taylor; his parents, Carl and Mildred Salyers, Hiltons; brother and best friend, Jonathan Salyers, Hiltons; several aunts and uncles; and a host of friends and crew members whom he proudly served with. The family will receive friends from 5 till 8pm Tuesday (April 21, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City. A funeral service will be conducted at 11am Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at Darthula Baptist Church, Lunsford Mill Rd, Hiltons with Rev. Layton Bentley and Rev. Randy Cleek officiating. Pallbearers will be his fellow correctional officers at Wallen's Ridge State Prison. Honorary pallbearers are L.K. and Stacy Crull. Special thanks should go to the Dr.'s Gregory Marcum, Marco DeSilva, Steven Baumrucker, Bryan Arnette and Asheesh Shipstone, also to the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA and the staff of W-3 Wilcox Hall at Holston Valley along with the excellent staff at Kingsport Hemotology and Oncology for their care of Wayne. It would please the family that instead of flowers, donations be made to them to help offset final expenses.
