Evelyn J. Johnson

Evelyn J. Johnson, age 93 of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, and reunited with her loving husband, on Saturday, July 5, 2025.  Evelyn was born on March 9, 1932, in Scott County, VA to Joseph and Myrtle Owens.  Evelyn was a long-time member of Vermont United Methodist Church, where she worked with the Meals on Wheels ministry and other ministries.  In 1953, Evelyn married her best friend and love of her life, Clyde Junior Johnson, and after 20 years of a beautiful marriage, he preceded her in death. 

Evelyn enjoyed reading, word search puzzles. and flower gardening.  She loved spending time with her family, friends, and church family. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Clyde Johnson; two brothers, Joseph Owens, and Wilbur Owens; and one sister, Edna Vaughn.  Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Ricky Johnson and wife, Jamie; grandson, Scott G. Johnson and Jada Steele; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Lorraine Johnson; and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Kingsport.  A funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm with Pastor David Salley officiating.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.  Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
