Georgia Ruth Byrd

Georgia Collins Byrd, age 77, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Most of all she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Fred Byrd; father, Charlie Collins; grandson, Christopher Higgins; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Kylee Large, and Nolan Williams; and granddaughter-in-law, Sammie Jo Williams. She is survived by her children Kathy Higgins and husband, Larry, Jeff Byrd and wife, Kim, Taina Williams and husband, Carlos, and Karen Byrd and companion, Clovis Yates; mother, Ora Bell Collins; grandchildren, Jennifer Large and husband, Tim, Jason Higgins, Jarrad Byrd and wife, Tiffany, "Pookie" Byrd, and fiance', Amanda, Ashley Byrd, Brandon Williams and fiance', Kayla, Derek Williams, Cory Williams and wife, Brooke, Charles Odom, Chandler Odom and wife, Lacy and Austin Hubble and wife, Danielle; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorette Penley and husband, James. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 pm with Bro. Tony Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Friends and family may also gather at the home of Mrs. Byrd on Friday evening March 31, 2017 beginning at 5:00 pm. The family would like to thank special nurses, LeighAnn and Laura of the CICU at Holston Valley Medical Center for their care and support for Georgia during her declining health.
