October 27, 1926 — April 30, 2016
Katie B. Collier Carter, 89, of Kingsport passed away, Saturday, April 30, 2016 following a brief illness.
Born in Duffield, VA she was the daughter of the late Letcher Slemp and Lillie Anderson Collier. Katie enjoyed cooking for anyone who would eat. She loved piddling and doing for her family. She was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Jack Carter; son, Rodney Carter; two brothers, and six sisters.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann Arnold and husband Gary and Cathy Bowser, all of Kingsport; son, Milton Carter and wife Carolyn of Unicoi; four grandchildren, Brandi Hutson and husband Chris, Jeremy Arnold, Matthew Carter and wife Elly, and Maegan Lawson and husband Alex; six great grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Monday, May 2, 2016, 5-7:00pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Downtown. Services will immediately follow at 7:00pm with Dr. Bruce Montgomery officiating.
A committal service will be held, Tuesday, May 3, 2016, 11:00am at East Tennessee Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Wellmont Hospice for the care and compassion they gave Katie.
