Larry Mitchell Moore

Apr 18, 1963 — Jun 29, 2026

Larry Moore, 63, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on June 29, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Larry was born on April 18, 1963, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and went on to live a life defined by devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, service to his country and a great love for his family.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army for over 40 years, a career marked by extraordinary dedication and sacrifice. Over the course of his service, he completed several tours of duty overseas, including deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. His commitment to duty earned him a remarkable collection of honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the Army Commendation Medal (4th award), the Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), the Armed Reserve Component Achievement Medal (6th award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device and 20-Year Device Silver Hourglass, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (5th award), the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, and the NATO Medal. Few carried the weight of service as honorably, or for as long as Larry did.

But for all his accomplishments in uniform, those who knew Larry best will remember him first as a Christian, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle whose love for his family was unmatched. He took the greatest pride and joy in the people closest to him, and that love is the legacy he leaves behind.

Larry is survived by his partner in life, Esther; his daughters, Lauren Muzzey and her husband Brandon, and Laney Moore; his grandchildren, Taya, Gabbie, Phoebe, Roberta, and Audrey; his brothers, Dean and his wife Lori, and Marvin and his fiancé Star; his sister, Brenda; and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Jane Blanton Shelton; father, Bob Moore; brother, Crawford Moore; and grandson, Thatcher.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee. Funeral Service will follow at 4:00 pm with Pastor Matt Smith officiating. Larry will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tennessee on Monday, July 6th at 1:00 pm.

Larry Moore's life was one of service above self — to his country, and to the family he loved without measure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
