Kingsport - Winfred Wright passed away at his residence Thursday, November 29th in Kingsport, TN. Winfred was born in Kingsport on July 10th, 1939. He was a member of Gunnings Baptist Church in Blountville. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retiree of Eastman Chemical Company. He was a very loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Winfred was a very generous person always willing to give of his time and financial support to his church and others in need.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Smith; daughter, Sharon Wright; sister, Brenda Fleenor; brother, Charles Smith.
Winfred is survived by his wife, Helen Wright; sister, Shelia Morris; brother, Rpbert Smith; daughter, Teresa McMurray (Danny); son, David Wright (Penny); 3 grandchildren, Jessica Fleenor, Malachi Wright, Sierra Wright; 5 great-grandchildren, Kameron Hartgrove, Kailey Finehout, Kolby Lambert, Kyra Fleenor and Addilyn Lambert.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at Gunnings Baptist Church, Shipley Ferry Road, Blountville, TN.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with Pastor Bob Ferguson officiating. Music will be provided by The Church Choir and Mary Kathryn Hughes.
A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gunnings Cemetery with the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 conducting the rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Owens, Albert Laughlin and Ray Hartsock. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks for the support to the family in recent years during the time of declining health of Winfred and his wife, Helen. Pastor Bob Ferguson, Danny Owens, Albert Laughlin and countless others would come to their home to visit and check on them. Two others who have a special place in our hearts were in-home caregivers Kathleen Johnson and Chastity Rainey. Each of these has been such a blessing to us all.
