John Robert Mcatee

John Robert McAtee, 71, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed from this life Friday (June 22, 2018) while at Doctor's Hospital, Sarasota, Fla. John was born March 8, 1947, in Normal, a son of Ralph D. and Jettie McAtee. He graduated from Normal Community High School and served for five years in the U.S. Army. He married Deborah Snyder in 1969. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Jennifer McAtee, Port Charlotte, Fla.; Erin Muhammad, Portsmouth, Va.; and Rebecca McAtee, Port Charlotte, Fla. Also surviving are one sister, Pam (Jim) Dunham, Saybrook; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews. His parents and one sister, Connie Jo Hagar, preceded him in death. John was a firefighter on the Normal Fire Department for 23 years, retiring as a captain. He also worked for the City of Bloomington and State Farm Insurance Co. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family memorial will be at a later date. John was known for his caring and compassion for others and for his strong faith in God. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
