Thomas Leo Carney

Thomas L. Carney passed away suddenly at age 71 on July 24, 2026, at his home in Englewood, Florida.

Thomas was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on November 5,1954, the son of the late Leo T. and Frances M. Carney. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his younger brother Francis J. Carney.

Tom grew up in Exton, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Downingtown High School. He worked for Amtrak as a line man and later moved into technical services and programing at the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. After leaving Amtrak, Tom continued his work as a consultant. He later worked in the Electronics Department at Walmart in Englewood, Florida and finished his working days at Lowes Home Improvement in Venice, Florida as a Construction Scheduling Administrator. In his free time, Thomas enjoyed photography, fishing, and staying up to date with the latest technical advances in computer technology.

He is survived by his ex-wife Catherine Zimmerman of Athens, Ohio; his sister, Joanne Scheuerman of Brevard, North Carolina; two nephews, Peter and Lee Scheuerman of Asheville, North Carolina; a niece, Stevi M. Scheuerman of Brevard, North Carolina; and Catherine’s two sons, Charlie Touvell of Athens, Ohio and Kedron Touvell of Austin, Texas.

At the family’s request, a private celebration of Tom’s life will be held in Englewood, Florida at a later date.
