Anna Belle Cheek McElroy Disney
Jul 6, 1938 — Jun 20, 2026
Anna Belle Cheek McElroy Disney went peacefully to be with her Lord on June 20, 2026. She resided at Ashwood Place in Frankfort, Kentucky. Anna was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Anna was born on July 6, 1938, to the late Ethel Carter and Alfred Bertram Cheek. She began life on a farm in Anderson County, Kentucky and later moved to Frankfort where she graduated from Frankfort High School. She said she met Gerald McElroy by chance while babysitting for a friend. He was on leave from the armed forces. They began to correspond by letter and married a year and a half later. They made their home in Mt Sterling, Kentucky and started a family. First came Brian and next came Randy, who according to Anna was full of energy. Sad times came when Gerald was diagnosed with cancer and died at the age of forty-one leaving behind his little family. Anna returned with her children to Frankfort and began working as a secretary for a local church, she said “to hone my skills before going on to another job.” She was hired by the Legislative Research Commission and spent the remainder of her working career as an executive assistant. After a few years of raising her boys alone, she met and married James “Jim” Disney and had a happy life of traveling with her husband and often taking along her grandchildren.
She was a loving, caring person with an adventuresome spirit who enjoyed traveling, watching old western movies, playing scrabble (usually winning) and especially loved gathering with family and friends for dinners and celebrations. In 2025, Anna authored and published children’s book “Romeo the Moose” with the help of her grandchildren Larah and Shane McElroy. She was also an active member of the South of Frankfort Presbyterian Church.
Anna is survived by her loving brother “Bill” Cheek (Mary) of Frankfort; her beloved grandchildren, Shannon McElroy (Denise), Warren McElroy (Charlie) of Frankfort, and Larah and Shane McElroy of Tampa, Florida. Six beautiful great-grandchildren, Anna Grace, Brooke, Emery, Levi, George and Randi Lynn. She was preceded in death by two devoted husbands, Gerald McElroy and James Disney; two sons, Brian (Denise) and Randal “Randy” (Debbie) McElroy; and two brothers, Alfred and Roland Cheek.
She also leaves behind many special friends, member’s of the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church; Dr. Anthony Barnes; and caregiver’s Debbie McElroy Burton and Sheila Moore.
To honor Anna’s wishes, there will be no traditional funeral service, instead, a “Celebration of Life” service is being planned for a future date. For those who wish to honor Anna’s memory, donations may be made to the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church.
