Betty Jean Holbrook
July 21, 1940 — April 17, 2026
Betty Holbrook, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Frankfort on Friday, April 17, 2026. She was born in Melvin (Floyd Co.) Kentucky on July 21, 1940, to the late Tolbert and Hazel Newsome Gilliam and was raised in Bypro and Wheelwright. Betty worked in the family-owned grocery store. She graduated from Wheelwright High School in 1959. She moved to Lexington and became an operator with Bell South. Later, she eloped with her loving husband of 57 years, Bill Holbrook, who proceeded her in death on November 28, 2018. They spent their honeymoon at the Indianapolis 500. Betty and Bill moved to Frankfort in 1966. Betty worked by his side at Capital City Body Shop. She was a member of Camp Pleasant Baptist Church. Betty was a loving Mom, Sister, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother; a friend to all who knew her. She loved the Lord and was a very sweet and caring lady.
She is survived by her son, Barry Holbrook, Frankfort, KY, sister, Peggy Long, Frankfort, KY; her grandchildren Cansas (Jonathan) Dixon, Hopkinsville, KY; Wade Holbrook. Smithville TN; and her great-grandchildren; Sadie, Kensie, Beau, and Lily Dixon; Paxton and Colsen Holbrook.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Clear Creek Baptist Church, Versailles KY. Pastor Dave Menser will be officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church, before the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
