Delores Throckmorton Lowry

Lexington, Kentucky - Beloved mother of Brett Alan Lowry and Matthew Curtis Lowry, and grandmother of Emmett David Lowry, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2026 from complications related to congestive heart failure. She was accompanied by her youngest son, daughter-in-law, and two corgi friends.

Delores was born on November 1, 1949 in Maysville, Kentucky to the late Alma Louise Art Throckmorton and the late Henry Clyde Throckmorton. She grew up in Cowan, Kentucky, and later moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where she married the late Mark W. Lowry and had her two sons.  After her husband’s passing, she spent 10 years of retirement living with her youngest son and daughter-in-law.

By trade, she was an independent cake decorator for several years, hand-crafting wedding cakes for dozens of wedding ceremonies while being a devoted mother.  She later worked as a cake decorator for Baskin Robbins, where she retired after 26 years.

Wherever she went, she made lasting connections with those around her. She was like a sister to some and a “second mom” to others. As an archetypal mother, she would sacrifice anything to help those in need.  She would help loved ones to a fault at times and always give others the benefit of the doubt. She noted that her greatest accomplishment was raising her two sons, and would talk often about how proud they made her.

She was a deeply devoted Christian, and her second greatest accomplishments in life was becoming a deacon and elder at Ewing Christian Church. She served until illness prevented her from attending.  She loved Christian music, crafting, and baking, and was well known for bringing some of the best cakes and confectionaries to her church’s Fifth Sunday Dinner. She also enjoyed making hand-crafted cards, which were expertly done, for the people she loved.

She also noted that the top three things in life that she loved were “My family, my sisters, and retirement.”

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her oldest sister, Janice Throckmorton, whom she loved dearly, along with a host of other relatives.

In her death, she has requested to be cremated, which will be completed by Clark’s Legacy Center in Nicholasville, KY.  Her memorial will be at Ewing Christian Church (1743 Ewing Rd Ewing, KY 41039) on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 PM, and her ashes will be scattered afterward in private family gathering.
