Frances Rice Osborne

April 17, 1944 — March 5, 2025

Mrs. Frances Rice Osborne, wife of Rev. Herbert Osborne, died at her home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with her son David at her side. Herb was at a doctor’s appointment.

Fran is survived by her twin brother, Frank Rice, of Lexington, Kentucky, and her sons David Osborne (Amy), of Cosby, Tennessee, and Brian Osborne of Lexington, Kentucky. Fran is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fran was born in rural Franklin County, Kentucky on April 17, 1944 to Horace Sanford Rice and Carie Evelyn Tillett Rice. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Her family owned a small farm and Fran’s early life formed the basis for her love of all of the creatures and bounty of God’s creation, and instilled in her the value of honest work.

Fran graduated from Franklin County High School and went on to earn Bachelor of Arts degrees from Asbury University and the University of Kentucky, and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Georgetown College. Fran spent 14 years teaching at Lexington Christian Academy, from Second to Fourth Grade. Fran was the first of her family to graduate from college, and instilled the value of education in her family and countless students.

Fran was a lovely pastor’s wife for her husband’s ministry. She had a wonderful sense of humor along with a hearty laugh that everyone who ever knew her enjoyed.

Fran served many years as the Assistant Children’s Director at our church, the Church of the Savior. She loved children. She also loved all of us.

Fran was a steadfast member of the Church of the Savior on Brannon Road in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Her visitation and funeral will be held there on Friday, March 14, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 and the funeral service will be at 12:00. A brief burial service for family and friends will be conducted in Lexington Cemetery after the service.

All family and friends are welcome to attend Fran’s visitation and funeral. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and her family looks forward to this opportunity to share her life with all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Church of the Savior Building Fund (https://churchofthesavior.net/), or to Bluegrass Care Navigators (https://www.bgcarenav.org/give), which provided attentive hospice care to her in her final days, for which her family is most appreciative.
