Gentry Sizemore
August 2, 1942 — January 11, 2020
Gentry Sizemore; loving Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, passed away at the VA Hospital in Louisville, KY on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. He was born in South Fork, KY on August 2, 1942 and grew up surrounded by a proud, loving extended family whose support and loyalty lasted a lifetime. Gentry never forgot about his family’s traditions as well as his Eastern Kentucky roots. One of his most important priorities every year was to visit his family’s grave site on Memorial Day weekend to pay respect to his parents and loved ones. This tradition lasted for more than 70 years; missing only 3 years (1960 – 1963) while serving in the US Army stationed in Germany. As promised to him this past Memorial Day weekend, “his” tradition will “live on” and move forward as planned! Papaw Gentry had a great respect for all animals and loved spending time outdoors. He truly enjoyed taking his Grandchildren for “cruises” on his houseboat and teaching them how to fish while including a few “lessons of life” during that time spent.
Gentry’s professional accomplishments as a General Contractor were numerous and he was well known for his fairness, integrity, hard work, attention to detail, and professionalism. He supervised many State wide projects including renovations of Freedom Hall, the Kentucky Horse Park, as well as building multiple schools across Kentucky. One of his proudest contributions was the construction of Bullitt East High School in Mt. Washington, KY. His two Children and two of his Grandchildren have proudly graduated from BE!
He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Martha Rose, Charlina, and Phyllis; his parents, Willie and Bertha Sizemore. He is survived by his daughter, Sondra (Mike), and his son Gentry II (Mandy), along with five grandchildren; Will, Michael, Ashley, Isabell, and Kaitlee, as well as one great grandson, Noah.
There will be a gathering for family and friends at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, Nicholasville, KY, 40356, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 with a “Celebration of Life” Service from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm that same evening.
Gentry Sizemore will be laid to rest at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, 4915 Harrodsburg Road, Nicholasville, KY, 40356 (Procession from Clark legacy Center will begin at 12:30 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Veterans Association.
