Gloe Lovelace Bertram

Gloe Lovelace Bertram, 92, of Lexington, KY, passed away on December 11, 2020. She was born near Monticello, KY, in 1928. Her husband, Alvin Bertram, and her parents, Charles and Gertrude Roberts Lovelace, preceded her in death. Gloe graduated from Wayne County High School, University of the Cumberlands, and Georgetown College. She was first employed as a teacher. After an interlude as a homemaker raising four children, Gloe returned to the workforce for 20 years as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. She was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion by the University of Kentucky in 1989. She was also honored by the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in establishing the annual Gloe L. Bertram Award. After her retirement, she worked for 15 years at Old Kentucky Chocolates in Lexington. Gloe was the perfect example of a Christian, selflessly serving and caring for others her entire life. She was a dedicated member of Central Baptist Church in Lexington, KY, for over 60 years and a longtime volunteer at Irishtown Mission. Surviving are her children Robert (Lynn) Bertram of Salisbury, NC, Charles (Sharon) Bertram of Lexington, KY, Carol Bertram of Lexington, KY, and Deborah (Kenny) Stevens of Lexington, KY, her grandchildren Whitney (Jeff) Thweatt of Richmond, VA, Sarah Bertram of James Island, SC, Will (Lauren) Bertram of Richmond, VA, Mary Dudley (John) Tramazzo of Clarksville, TN, Michael (Lacee) Bertram of Dublin, OH, Jonathan (Colleen) Stevens of Richmond, KY, and Chris (Liz) Stevens of San Mateo, CA, and her great-grandchildren Robbie Tramazzo, Mary Grace Tramazzo, Peter Bertram, Millie Bertram, Laney Bertram, Haleigh Martin, and Coby Stevens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 110 Wilson Downing Road, Lexington, KY, 40517, or a charity of choice. Clark Legacy Center is handling funeral arrangements. A private graveside service will be held at Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, Kentucky. Due to the Pandemic, a memorial service will be held on a later date.
