Chief Warrant Officer 4th Class John A. White, United States Coast Guard (Ret.)
Chief Warrant Officer 4th Class John A. White, age 83, of Kentucky, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Born in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Kathleen and Carl White.
John was a much loved devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was marked by service, resilience, and creativity.
John proudly served for 28 years as an engineering officer in the United States Coast Guard. During his distinguished military career, he was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam era, participated in rescue missions aiding Cuban refugees, conducted law enforcement operations on rivers and lakes in Missouri and Arkansas, and served on drug interdiction patrols in the Caribbean. His service also took him to Alaska and aboard an icebreaker on the Great Lakes. He retired from military service in 1991.
Following his military career, John worked as a facilities coordinator at Lexmark International in Lexington, Kentucky, where he was employed for 10 years before retiring .
In 2013, after losing his eyesight, John demonstrated remarkable determination by learning woodturning through training at the VA Blind School. Over the next 13 years, he became a skilled artisan, creating and selling beautiful wooden vessels crafted from Kentucky trees.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Allen White.John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pamela Duel White; his children, Rhonda Garrison, Rita Wells, Adam White, (Megan), and Joseph White, (Amanda); as well as 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, Nicholasville, Kentucky. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. A celebration of life reception will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing.
