Martha Goodwin Dempsey, 84, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016. She was born on November 1, 1932 to the late Herman and Mary Goodwin. Martha was a member of Versailles Baptist Church. She was very active in numerous churches serving as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir director, along with being the state YWA President for 2 years and working in GA camps.
Martha always said that her greatest achievement in life was being a mother and that her second greatest achievement was being a music teacher. She taught school for 30 years along with working at the KY Department of Education for 7 years as the state supervisor of music and with the KERA internship program. She spent 5 years working as a Professional Development Coordinator at KY State University. She is also a retired educator with the Woodford County School System.
She graduated from Campbellsville University, Georgetown College, and EKU. She also won the B & PW Woman of Achievement Award. Martha was very active in the Democratic Party in both Woodford and Franklin Counties.
She is survived by her daughter Melissa Dempsey Dienst, Stanton; and by her special nephew Robert Ellis, Jr, Shelbyville, along with 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Goodwin Thompson Dempsey; daughter Dianna Dempsey Bojarski; and her brother Robert Ellis Goodwin.
Funeral Information
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 10:00am at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road with Rev. John Brandon officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
