Shan Thompson

July 27, 1954 — June 7, 2025

Alan Shan Thompson, of Lexington, KY, and formerly of Paducah and Benton, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones and his beloved dog.  

Shan was born on July 27, 1954, in Benton, KY to Luther and Zera Thompson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Meryl, and his brothers, Jackie and Wendell. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Katie, his children, Jay and Julie Bazzell of Lexington, KY, and Amanda and Daniel Crawley of Concord, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Thompson (Maryanna) of Paducah and his sister, Phil of Palma. He was Papaw to Alexis, Jillian, Campbell, Jocelyn and Joel. 

Shan was a 1972 graduate of Benton High School and was a retiree of Continental General Tire of Mayfield, where he worked for 32 years. In retirement, he worked at Best Buy in both Paducah and Lexington. 

Shan was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington where he faithfully served on the production team and in the preschool ministry. 

Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, KY on July 1, 2025  beginning at 1:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bluegrass Parkinson’s Alliance who have provided much support as he battled Parkinson’s Disease for the last 10 years. Donations can be made at bgparkinsons.org.
