Bradley Gene Turpin Sr
September 21, 1949 — June 14, 2026
Brad Turpin, Sr., 76, of Versailles, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born September 21, 1949, at the Pattie A. Clay Infirmary in Richmond, Kentucky, to Harold and Rosa (Allen) Turpin, Brad was a lifelong resident of central Kentucky. He proudly grew up in Bybee, Kentucky, where he spent his childhood alongside his brothers and sister, getting into any mischief they could find or create themselves. He also spoke fondly of working construction with his father, laying block and concrete.
Lance Corporal Brad Turpin, Sr. served his country as a United States Marine from August 1969 to August 1971. Stationed at Camp Lejeune and aboard the USS Charleston, he trained on virtually every weapon in the Marine Corps arsenal and served as a truck driver and artillery crewmember, firing the 105mm Howitzer more times than he likely cared to count. His service took him to places like Cuba, the Panama Canal, & Peru.
After his time in the Marines, Brad retired from Overnite Trucking (UPS), where he spent many years as a truck driver and dispatcher, before going on to a second career as a school bus driver for Woodford County Public Schools. He took great pride in both careers, but it was driving a school bus that held a special place in his heart. He loved hearing from former students years later and stayed close with many of them and their families long after they had grown up.
Brad was a die-hard, blue-blooded University of Kentucky sports fan who never missed a chance to cheer on NASCAR or Raiders NFL football. He spent countless hours working in his yard, tending to his flowers and plants, and keeping a watchful (if often exasperated) eye on the raccoons, birds, squirrels, possums, and chipmunks who considered his property their own.
More than anything, Brad was a man who made people feel like family, and to so many, he was simply "Pops." He had so many "sons" and "daughters" who were not his by blood but were his all the same; close friends who became family over the years. Wherever Pops was, good music and a good time were sure to follow.
He is survived by his brothers, Hal Turpin, Jr. (Madonna) and Mark Turpin (Loretta); his sister, Ramona Smith (Phil); his sons, Brad Turpin, Jr. (Jill) and Brad Turpin, III (Kelly); his beloved and cherished daughter, Brenna Turpin (TJ); four grandchildren, Savannah (Brittany), Alyssa (Markus), Jasper (Tanyea), & Leah; five great-grandchildren, Harper, Cheyenne, Oaklynn, Aubree, & Odessa; and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 2:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ClarkLegacyCenter.com.
