Daniel Abell Luckett Sr
Mar 14, 1941 β Jun 20, 2026
Daniel βDanβ Abell Luckett, Sr., 85, of Versailles, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 14, 1941 in Phillipsburg, Kentucky, he was a son of the late William Eugene and Elizabeth Florine Abell Luckett. After graduating from Saint Charles High School in 1959, Dan joined the United States Army as a Military Policeman for two years. After that, he went on to build a successful 30-year career at IBM in Lexington as a department manager, retiring in 1991.
Beyond his career at IBM, Dan ran a picture-framing business from his home for many years. He was a devoted member of Saint Leo Catholic Church for fifty seven years and played in the church softball league until the age of sixty.
In his younger years, Dan enjoyed golfing and was always up for a little friendly competition, no matter the sport. He often reminisced about his days as a high school basketball star, stories his children loved to hear again and again. He was also a lifelong fan of the Yankees (especially Mickey Mantle) and of course the Kentucky Wildcats.
Anyone who knew Dan knew of his pride in his garden and landscaping. He grew an impressive variety of vegetables, meticulously cared for his yard, and could often be found tending to both. Many would argue he grew the best tomatoes around and maintained one of the prettiest lawns in the neighborhood.
Anyone who knew Dan also knew he was quick-witted and never at a loss for words. The sayings, advice, and one-liners he became known for - beloved βDan-ismsβ - will live on in the stories his family shares and the memories they hold dear.
Above all, Dan was deeply devoted to his family. He felt a profound responsibility to care for those he loved and made sure everyone was taken care of. A perfectionist by nature, he generously shared his wisdom, skills, and helping hands on countless DIY projects and life challenges. His family will forever cherish his guidance, love, and unwavering support.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Florence βTeenyβ Luckett; his children, Danny (Wendy) Luckett, Kelly (Marty) Reinert, Sandra Luckett, and Lesli (Arnie) Tempel; his grandchildren, Cory (Emily) Reinert, Will Luckett, Ally (Jantzon) Croft, Ben Luckett, and Karah (Landon) Gregg; and his great-grandchildren, Cooper Croft, Annabelle Reinert, and another baby Reinert on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Doris Sandusky, Carolyn Luckett, David (Martha) Luckett, Nolan (Kaye) Luckett, Helen Luckett, and Rita (Mike) Spalding. He was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Luckett.
Pallbearers will be Danny Luckett, Marty Reinert, Arnie Tempel, Cory Reinert, Will Luckett, and Ben Luckett. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Reinert, Sandra Luckett, Lesli Tempel, Wendy Luckett, Ally Croft, and Karah Gregg.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor and also on the 2nd floor ICU at Baptist Hospital Lexington for the exceptional compassion, kindness, and dignity they showed while caring for Dan during his final week.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Leo Catholic Church, 295 Huntertown Road, Versailles, KY. 40383, followed by a burial with military honors at Rose Crest cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home, 241 Rose Hill Avenue, Versailles, KY, and on the day of the funeral from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m at the church.
