James "Jim" A. Ward

May 29, 1940 — May 29, 2026

James A. “Jim” Ward, 86, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, with his loving wife by his side. Born on May 29, 1940, in Forest Hill, Maryland, to Albert and Ella Louise Page Ward. Jim spent most of his life in Harford County, Maryland before relocating to Florida in 2008. A hardworking and dedicated man, he built homes for more than 20 years before beginning a career as a heavy equipment operator, a profession he continued for over two decades until his retirement in 2005. Jim was a faithful attendee of Lord’s Church at Lake Henry, a non-denominational church where he found fellowship and spiritual encouragement.

Jim was a man who truly enjoyed the outdoors and making memories with those he loved. Hunting was one of his greatest passions, and his sense of adventure was legendary among family and friends—so much so that he famously took his wife moose hunting on their honeymoon. He also enjoyed traveling and discovering new places, but some of his favorite moments were the simple ones, such as going to breakfast at the Lake Alfred Diner after Sunday church and enjoying Barbara’s home-cooked meals. Above all, Jim treasured time spent with his family and held a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Angel, who brought him immense joy throughout the years.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ella; his son, Christopher Ward; his brother, Charles Ward and Page Ward; and his sister, Janet Ward. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of eight years, Barbara Ward; his son, James Ward of Bel Air, Maryland; his daughter, Karen Lucker and her husband, Andy, of Edgewood, Maryland; his stepdaughter, Tiena McLaughlin and her husband, Michael of Bel Air, Maryland; his brother, Gary Ward and his wife, Kathy of Jarrettsville, Maryland; his sister, Gail Lowman and her husband, Toby of Delta, Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law, Nadia Ward; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; his wonderful caregiver Viola, whom he adored; his little fur baby, Dava; and many close friends who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s memory to support dementia research through Cure Dementia Research Foundation Donation Program.
