Obituary for L. Adrian "Leo" Pena
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leoncio Adrian Pena, affectionately known to family and friends as Leo. Adrian has gone home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, entrepreneurship, and love.
Adrian is survived by his beloved mother, Deborah (Devi) A. Walker-Colo; step-father Gregory Colo and his sisters, Kristal Pena and Sarah Pena; and his cherished nieces, Zyan, Simarra, Miya, and Camila all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
A graduate of Earlville High School in Earlville, Illinois, Class of 1997, Adrian answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy with older sister Kristal. He spent his first four years stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, working in medical administration as a Navy Corpsman before continuing his service in the Navy Reserves. During his reserve service, he was recalled to active duty and deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman, serving alongside United States Marines in Fallujah, Iraq. His Marine regiment was one of the first to arrive in Fallujah. His military service reflected his courage, dedication, and commitment to helping others.
Following his military career, Adrian spent several years in Ohio, where he strengthened his faith and developed a deep and meaningful relationship with God. During this time, he became actively involved in his local church community. He returned to the west coast and continued his education, earning a bachelor's degree in science and biology from the very prestigious University of California Davis.
Adrian later made Portland, Oregon, his home, where he combined his passion for health and wellness with his entrepreneurial spirit. He became one of the early pioneers in the CBD industry, founding an all-vegan CBD company dedicated to helping people improve their health and quality of life. The business became his life's work and passion, and through it he touched the lives of countless individuals seeking alternative approaches to wellness. In only a couple of short years his CBD company Thought cloud was a top competitor amongst all other US CBD companies at that time.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Adrian was known for his adventurous spirit. He loved traveling and spent time exploring Europe. One of his greatest passions was automobile racing, including participation in the internationally known Gumball 3000 rally and other racing events throughout North America. He had a great love for cars and his Mercedes and Porsche were his babies. He embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to pursue his dreams wherever they led.
Those who knew Adrian will remember his generous heart, infectious sense of humor, and his ability to make people laugh. He was always willing to help others and never hesitated to share his time, knowledge, or kindness. His family and friends will forever treasure the memories of his jokes, stories, adventures, and unwavering love.
Though Adrian faced personal struggles in recent years, he continued to meet life's challenges with determination and resilience. He was deeply loved by his family, who remained steadfast in their support and care for him. While words cannot express the sorrow of his loss, we find comfort in knowing that his faith was an important part of his life and that his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In Adrian’s memory, we encourage compassion and understanding for those living with bipolar disorder and other mental health challenges. Mental illness is often an invisible struggle, and we hope his story reminds others that seeking support, offering grace, and extending kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone's life.
Adrian will be deeply missed every day, but never forgotten.
