Helen Oline Andreas

Helen was born in Lunds Valley, North Dakota to Pauline and Emil Anderson; she was their youngest child and their only girl. She lived in North Dakota until she graduated from high school when she left for Oregon City, Oregon. It was there she met her beloved John Joseph Andreas, Jr. at a dance. Helen and John were married in August of 1948. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother spending many hours doing things for and with family. She was known by all for her wonderful cooking especially pies, cookies, spaghetti, potato salad, home canned peaches and pickles, fried chicken and mashed potatoes/gravy...the list goes on. The cooking was only part of the story; the caring and hospitality she offered to all who visited were always part of her style. If you dropped in, you got fed! Helen also had an amazing green thumb when it came to her flower gardens, adding the splash of color that said "welcome" to all who visited. Helen was a licensed beautician which came in handy with 6 children, 5 of whom were girls. She worked for a time as a shampoo tech at Perfect Look and as a bookkeeper for Apollo Distributing. Most of her time was spent as a loving wife and mother. Helen and John spent working vacations building and completing their cabin in Lapine, Oregon. Helen will be remembered and loved for her smile, her laugh, her love of family and her joy in music, whether while playing the piano herself or while just listening to music; it seemed to be a part of her. Missing her already are her children Sheila (Roger) Stratman, Karen (Frank)Mathew, John, Theresa (Dermot) O'Leary and Tammie (Josh) as well as her 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband John and daughter Debra. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Helen on Saturday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, located at 1131 S.E. Oak St. Portland, OR, 97214.
