Kirk George Reddie

Kirk G. Reddie was born in 1955 in Richland, WA to John and Sylvia Reddie. In 1958, with his baby brother in tow, the family moved to their Shoreline home, where Kirk used the double lot to build his dream house where he lived the last 20 years of his life. Kirk graduated from Shoreline High School in 1973. Following high school, he went to the University of Washington where he received a BA in accounting. He then picked up his CPA license and later a MBA, also at UW. Kirk loved to learn, and he excelled in school. In high school, he was a member of the Honor Society, a strong wrestler, and a renowned trumpet player and drum major in his beloved band. Kirk went on to play in the UW Marching Band and inspired those around him to share their talents. One of his friends describe him as ‘large, blond, strong, handsome – Kirk looked like his Swedish Viking ancestors’. He always had a smile to give, and his laugh was contagious. Growing up, at Christmas he could not read the Herman Humor Book he received until the end as he would laugh so hard and even though no one knew what Kirk was laughing at watching the pure joy his face caused everyone to laugh until they cried. Kirk had two passions in life, writing and Model trains. He was blessed that he was able to combine these two and was editor and publisher of N Scale Model Railroading Magazine publishing 117 issues over 19 ½ years before converting to an online version in March of 2020. In the last few years, Kirk expanded his love of writing and joined a screen writing zoom group. He had so many stories to tell and would talk for hours regarding them. Kirk in his own words said, “Hobbies are great in many ways; in one sense they just don’t matter and in another they really reflect who we aspire to be.” Kirk passed peacefully at Northwest Hospital April 8, 2024. Kirk is survived by his brother Bill Reddie (Sherry), sister Elaine (Kerry) Raschkow, nephew’s Clinton and Max Reddie, Phillip (Alicia) Raschkow, his niece Amanda Raschkow, step-niece Vanessa and many friends (some friendships that lasted over 50 – 60 years). Kirk will be deeply missed. There will be no services per his request. A celebration of life will be held this spring. Donations can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to your local food bank.
