Carole Anne Simpkin, age 92, passed away in Venice, Florida on February 8, 2023. She was born on March 22, 1930 in Enderlin, North Dakota, the daughter of Carl A and Augusta Goetz Zelmer. The family moved to Sault Ste. Marie , Michigan where Carole graduated from high school and began working in the banking industry and attending college. She married John (Jack) Simpkin September 4, 1950 and relocated to Marietta Ohio in 1957. Carole focused her time and energy on her family as well as being very active in St Mary Catholic Church and school, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, little league as well as a multitude of supportive activities surrounding her family. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, golf and all Notre Dame sports. While busy raising her family she obtained a Bachelors of Arts from Marietta College and began her career as a third grade teacher at St. Mary Elementary School. Upon retirement Carole and Jack moved to Venice, Florida in 1983 where she was active in many charitable, church and community organizations. She continued her enjoyment of bridge, bowling and golf and enjoyed the life of a “snow bird” with Jack, splitting their time between Venice and Brimley, Michigan. Carole was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice and was active in choir and as a lector. She was additionally a member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brimley and was very active in choir, lay readers and the pasty makers group which supported the parish. Surviving are her sons, John C., Terrance W., James P., and Thomas G., her daughter Judith (Rick) Allen, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John A Simpkin, daughter, Carole E. Simpkin, Daughter-in-law, Charlotte D (Terrance) Simpkin and grandson, John C. (J.C.) Allen. A private memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Venice Florida on February 23, 2023.
