Sandra Jacques of Venice FL, passed away on February 17th, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born October 18th, 1942, in Providence Rhode Island to Edna and Roland Ohsberg. She attended East Providence High School and graduated in 1960 with honors with an interest in pursuing a career in nursing. Sandra enrolled in the Rhode Island Hospital School of nursing and was immediately noticed. A diligent work ethic coupled with professionalism and intelligence fast-tracked Sandra into immediate employment at Rhode Island hospital. As an operating room nurse, she carried herself with dignity and grace for 30 years. Her dedication to the hospital was legendary. During the blizzard of 1978, Sandra never left the hospital for two weeks but instead attended and cared for those patients in need which went well above the call of duty. Upon retiring from Rhode Island Hospital, she then took a job as a school nurse for the Burrillville School system a job she maintained for 14 years. For 38 years her Summers were spent as a nurse for Camp Ruggles, a camp for behaviorally and intellectually challenged children. She was loved by the staff and the children and left an enduring legacy. While working full-time Sandra put herself through college and obtained a bachelor's degree in science from Providence College. She met George Jacques in 1959 and they married in 1965. Their unconditional love and respect for each other lasted for 63 years. Sandra and George built a house in Glocester, Rhode Island where they raised their two children Bruce and Amy. Her devotion to family and to children was tremendous as was her devotion and love for animals. Whether helping a neighbor find a pet or taking in stray animals on her own everyone knew that if an animal came across Sandra's path it was well taken care of. Sandra will be sadly missed. She is survived by her husband George her son Bruce and her daughter Amy, her son-in-law Michael and her granddaughter Madeline who live in Boulder Colorado. George and Bruce currently live in Venice Florida in Venetian Falls. She's also survived by a brother Roland of Rehoboth, Ma, and a sister Elna of East Providence, RI. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, March, 16th at 1 pm at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, FL with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Sandra’s name to Camp Ruggles www.campruggles.org/donate
