Joann Flak Roy passed away on June 13, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida. Joann was born on August 8, 1944 to Mary and Michael Flak in Struthers, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children. After graduating from Struthers High School in 1962, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Youngstown State University and a Master of Education degree from Westminster College, Pennsylvania. She was employed as an elementary school reading teacher in Boardman, Ohio and Mt. Zion, Illinois. After she retired, Joann taught English at Spisska Nova Ves in Slovakia. She married Jon Raymond Roy in Youngstown, Ohio on August 9, 1969. Joann and Jon retired to Venice, Florida where they made many wonderful friends. She leaves behind two children, Jennifer Stanze (Nick) and Dr. Jason Roy; grandchildren Reagan and John; her sister Irene Feyock; and many nieces and nephews. Joann loved to travel, to polka dance, and spend time with her family. She was a voracious reader and a fierce competitor who never missed an opportunity to win at bingo. Joann had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered for the love she gave her friends and family. She will be missed dearly. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research: https://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=2631 A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 11:30, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1301 Center Road, Venice, Fl 34292.
