Walter Couden Rogers, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023, in Trustbridge Hospice, Boca Raton, Florida. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon who died May 3, 2022. They had enjoyed almost 70 years of loving marriage. Walter is survived by his daughter Janet and her husband Leon, their two children Steven and Jennifer, her husband Brian and their two children Ashleigh and Henry. Walter’s parents Walter and Florence Couden Rogers, his two brothers, John and William and two sisters, Charlotte and Mary, all have passed. Walter was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Sharon and a loving and supportive father to his daughter Janet. His life was filled with health challenges, but he continued to be a strong, spiritual husband and father. When his health allowed, he enjoyed traveling in their RV and golfing as much as possible with family and church friends. He assisted Sharon with whatever she needed with her music career consisting of performing and composing. Singing in the choir and enjoying time with church friends was always very important to him. Walter had been a high school and college athlete and he loved watching professional hockey and football and supporting his beloved alma maters’ football teams, Hillsdale and Michigan State. He graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Business and History. Reading about the Civil War era was a passion of his. His career at Ford Motor Company in Michigan lasted until 1970 when his health would no longer allow him to work. However, his retirement years were very full and rewarding. He missed being up in northern Michigan where he spent a portion of his life and would often look at the photos taken during the last big trip there in 2007 and reminisce. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a blessing to him, and he enjoyed being a part of their lives growing up. Birmingham, Michigan was home while Sharon and Walter were raising their family. Walter and Sharon moved to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1979 and then on to Venice, Florida sometime in the 1980’s to care for Sharon’s ailing mother. They were active residents of Venice, Fl for over 40 years. In 2020 they moved to Wellington, Florida to be near Janet and her family. After Sharon’s passing, Walter persevered in life until the struggle became too great. We will miss him so much but know he is with Sharon, the love of his life in heaven above. A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Venice Presbyterian Church in Venice with a graveside service to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Venice Presbyterian Church Music Program.
