Barbara L. Hulmes, age 89, of Venice, FL, passed away on August 4, 2023 at the Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, FL. She was born to Arthur and Bess Lockhart on July 17, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA. Barbara grew up in Abington, PA, and married the guy next door, Harry Hulmes. She moved to Venice, FL from Somerset, NJ in 2016 after the passing of her husband. She was happily married for 64 years. Barbara will be remembered as a kind and loving mom and wife. She was a wonderful cook, known for her lasagna and veal parmesan. She baked incredible cakes and pies made from scratch. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching NY Giants football and attending Giants football games with her family. She was an avid reader and a puzzle fanatic, never having a time without a jigsaw puzzle in progress. Surviving family members include her daughters, Linda Sleet (Randy) and Terry Daroca (Gabe); son Rich Hulmes (Sheryl); 6 grandchildren, Cory Van Hoose, Erin Van Hoose, Kelsey San Martin, Kyle Daroca, Chris Hulmes, Ryan Hulmes; and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tidewell Hospice House, Attention: Philanthropy Dept., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL, or a charity of your choice.
