Vincent “Jimmy” Onofrio of Venice, FL-formerly of Branford and New Haven, CT-passed from this life on September 5, 2023 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte. Jimmy served as a storekeeper in the US Navy prior to his honorable discharge in 1946. He attended the University of New Haven before joining his father and brothers as a butcher at Onofrio’s Market. He went on to found and operate Onofrio’s Fresh Cut and Ultimate Foods with his brother and nephew until age 93. He will be remembered for his generosity and quick wit and was a proud grandfather who delighted in sharing stories of his grandchildrens’ accomplishments. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Rose, his siblings Anthony “Sonny”, Edward “Eddie”, and Marie Duddy, his former spouse Dorothy “Dora”, and his granddaughter Jessica Costanzo. He is survived by his spouse Eileen and her children, Michael and Michelle and their 5 children, daughters Susan (Jerry) Afeltra, Marguerite (Mark) Costanzo, and grandson Brian Afeltra. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Epiphany Cathedral Thursday, September 14 at 10 am. Service arrangements in Connecticut have not been finalized, interment will be at the State Military Cemetery in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jimmy’s honor to the Jessica Costanzo Scholarship Fund (470 Conrad Rd., Venice, FL 34293) or Tidewell Hospice (5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238).
