Jack Amero of Venice, FL passed away on September 14, 2023. He was born in Gloucester, MA on May 31, 1947, to John J. Amero, Sr and Mary Priscilla (Joseph) Amero. He graduated from Gloucester High School in 1965 and from Boston College in 1969. After graduation, Jack moved to Manchester, NH and began teaching English at Manchester High School West. Jack retired from West in 2004 after teaching for 35 years. He married his wife, Roberta Moynihan Sheehan, in December 1978. They came to Venice, FL as “snowbirds” in 2007, eventually moving to Venice fulltime. Jack’s passion was coaching, and he coached many sports teams. In 1977, he became the first girls’ soccer coach at West High School. He retired from coaching in 2005 after winning his 16th Class L State Championship. Jack would often tell people that he was privileged to have coached many exceptional female athletes, and he always attributed his success to them. He was most proud that so many went on to have opportunities to continue their careers in college and as coaches themselves. Jack had a great love of life and of meeting people. Jack was a longtime member of The Raphael Social Club where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed skiing, whether in Europe, out West or at Cannon Mountain. He played golf at Manchester Country Club and Jacaranda West Country Club. He loved traveling, and in retirement he and his wife Bobbi explored Europe and the United States and of course, made many trips to his beloved Disney World. He was preceded in death by his parents, John, and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Amero; daughter, Kerry Bushway; son-in-law Jon Bushway; sister-in-law Gail Ramsey; sister-in-law Jan Moynihan; brother-in-law James Ramsey; brother-in-law Michael McCourt; and several nieces. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Foundation, 3550 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34239. A graveside service at Wheeler Hill Cemetery, Littleton, New Hampshire and a luncheon for family and friends is being planned for a later date.
