Angelo Alexander Yerace, a longtime resident of Freeport, PA, and transplant to Osprey, FL, passed peacefully on 01 January 2024 after living a long and healthy 98 years. Born April 28, 1925 in Freeport, PA, he was the son of the late Theresa (Fameli) and Alessandro Ieraci, proud immigrants whose work ethic was passed on to Angelo from a young age. Angelo’s was a lifetime of service. He served as a motor machinist in the US Navy, surviving an underwater mine blast as his landing craft was approaching the beaches of Normandy during D-Day operations. Always one to work with his hands, Angelo became a mechanic after discharge, later teaching auto mechanics at Lenape Technical School in Ford City, PA. He also served for decades as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department. A giver well into his nineties, Angelo was still volunteering at his local Senior Friendship Center. One of Angelo’s favorite pastimes was picking; he spent many an hour at auctions and garage sales, later selling, gifting, and donating his finds. He enjoyed being the one who could find you the thing you need, and everyone knew Angelo was the man to ask. In addition to his parents, Angelo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ailene and his siblings Joseph Yerace and Emma Covone-Garofalo. He is survived by his sister Toni Ruzbacki; and all of his girls: his daughters, Pamela Sigmund (Ron Litzell) and Teresa DeWitt; his granddaughter, Kari (Paul) Martindale; and his great-granddaughter, Sequoia Martindale. Friends are invited to gather at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, from 12 – 1 pm with a service beginning at 1 PM. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery. The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Venice Senior Friendship Center, 2350 Scenic Drive, Venice, FL 34293.
