Mary Elizabeth Kibbey (nee McKenna), better known as Betty, of Venice, FL, passed away at the age of 70 on February 28, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents James A McKenna and Mary Elizabeth (Ryan) McKenna, as well as her brothers Robert F. McKenna, James T. McKenna and sister-in-law Marlee (Miller) McKenna. Betty is survived by her husband Charlie of 47 years, and their daughters Colleen Beaver (Ed) and Maribeth (Drew) as well as their son Kevin (Barry). She is also survived by two grandchildren: EJ and Katy Beaver, as well as 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Betty was born February 10, 1954, in Washington, DC. She attended St John's Catholic elementary school in Silver Spring, MD, high school at Ursaline Academy in Bethesda, MD (class of 1972) and Montgomery Junior College (class of 1974). Betty worked for several years as the executive secretary for the Scout Executive for the DC Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1979, upon the birth of Colleen, she became a stay-at-home Mom, raising 3 children and providing a nurturing environment – being involved in their school’s PTAs, various sports teams, and scouting activities. In 1990, she became the bookkeeper for Kibbey and Terle, PT LLC. Upon Kevin’s graduation from High School, in 2004, she became a pre-school teacher at Resurrection Catholic Church. She continued both jobs until we moved from Burtonsville to Venice, Florida. Betty was known for her love of playing games (especially BINGO and cards) and going out to eat. She made many new friends upon her move to Venice and was a loyal friend to many. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
