John Franklin Jackson, age 98 passed away in Venice, Florida on April 15, 2024. John was born on December 5, 1925 in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He had been employed by the General Motors Corporation for 42 years and retired in 1989 as a Plant Manager. In 1990, John and his wife Barbara moved to Venice, Florida from Grand Blanc, Michigan. John attended Kansas University where he was an All-American Track star and team captain. In 1948 he was the 1st Alternate on the United States Olympic Team for the summer games held in London. Later he was inducted into the KU Booth Family Hall of fame. He was a member of the Kansas University Sigma Chi Fraternity. John also was a veteran of the United States Army . John is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Barbara Reita Jackson of Venice, Florida; three sons, John (Jan) Jackson of Sun City Center, Florida, Doug (Lisa) Jackson of Great Falls, Virginia, and David (Evie) Jackson of Daytona Beach, Florida. A visitation will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4:00PM-6:00PM with the funeral service to begin at 6:00PM.
